Hospice is personalized care that addresses the medical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals and families faced with a life-limiting illness. The goal is to help terminally ill individuals live their final weeks and months with the highest quality of life possible.
Hospice care is provided by a team of experts that includes a physician, nurse, certified hospice counselor, and volunteer. This type of care focuses on minimizing pain and maximizing comfort at the end of life.
Anyone can refer a patient to Blue Summit. Once our help is requested, our clinical team will step in and have the necessary conversations to get hospice services started. This includes talking with the prospective patient, family members, and the patient’s physician(s).
A hospice eligible patient is defined as someone with a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness runs its course, however, it’s not unusual for some patients to live longer than six months. In fact, recent studies have indicated that patients who receive hospice care can actually live longer than those who do not enroll in hospice services.
At Blue Summit Hospice & Palliative Care, our team is available 24/7, 365 days a year. In addition to providing 5-star care, our board-certified physicians strive to communicate with patients, families, and referral sources based on their expectations and needs to provide the most appropriate level of care.
Our main priority is our patients. We will contact your family / patient within one hour of receiving your referral – all qualified patients are also admitted within 3 hours as well.
Medicare covers the full cost of hospice care for terminally ill individuals who choose the hospice benefit and agree to stop seeking curative treatments. Most private insurance plans also cover hospice care and reimbursements vary by plan.
Blue Summit and Palliative Care never turns away a terminally ill individual because of an inability to pay for our services. We rely on support from the community and donations made to the Blue Summit and Palliative Care Foundation to provide our non-reimbursed care.
